I received a note from an old teammate the other day. He asked me to call him. I did and found out that he is coaching high school ball. He spoke to the fact that there were many talented kids in his community that won’t play ball. We have the same problem in our community. We also spoke about kids who will play on the team but won’t put any time into working out and lifting weights in the off season.
These are two problems that plague our programs. Simply put, kids don’t do the work necessary to succeed. I think the biggest reason for this is fear. Sure, some kids are just lazy, but I think many more are simply petrified of hard work. The time comes to lift and they are frozen in fear or run away to something that is comfortable.
Until such kids can overcome their fear of hard work they will waste the opportunities to reach their potential as athletes, students, and people.
Two days after that conversation I came across a tremendous video via Addicted2Success.com. Give some thought to sharing it with those you know who want to succeed but just can’t get past their fear of hard work. Here is the link. Here is a link to the transcript.
